Magnavox TV colors went crazy

Our Magnavox TV (about 13 years old) has this problem:

Something went wrong with the color, I'll try to explain it.It's as if
someone is holding a see thru color screen in front of the picture and
the colors of the screen are very psyco-delic. Kind of a neon green
oval in the middle, surrounded by a hot pink, surrounded by a blue and
then surrounded by a mix of green and brown. So the reception is good,
the colors are very crazy.

It's a 27" monitor.

There was a definite sizzle or crackle the day I turned it on and it
did this.

There's a place in town that does free estimates, but I thought I'd
look around the internet and see what I could find out about this
problem before we drag this big thing around town. Will it be
expensive? Should we look for a new TV vs cost of repair?

Actually our living room TV is goofy too, I'll post seperately about
that (RCA TV left & right sides have black area).

Thanks!

Sounds like the picture tube has become magnetized. Probably the
auto-degausser has crapped out. Call a service tech.

Your degaussing circuit failed, sounds like the thermistor burned up, part
is a few bucks, figure an hour of labor at most, worth getting fixed.

Probably the degaussing circuit has failed. Nothing too complicated for an
experienced tech, and worth the repair.
