Where can I source low cost Green Laser pointers in Australia?
**Since they're illegal to sell and use, you'll need to import them
yourself.

Hi, any idea why they are illegal?
I see Jaycar carry a Green laser module, but I suppose it technically is not
a point, and its like $150..

Hi, any idea why they are illegal?

** They can cause serious eye damage under some conditions.

Any laser pointers other than class 1 or class 2 are illegal to sell.

In NSW this is under this comes under Regulations included in the Fair
Trading Act.

There are also regulations regarding testing and labelling of laser pointers
that sellers must comply with.

green is not illegal.

the poster was looking for "green" not "other than class 1 or class 2"

[quote
Class 2 lasers are limited to a maximum output power of 1 milliwatt or one thousandth of a watt (abbreviated to mW) and the beam must have a wavelength between 400 and 700 nm.

A person receiving an eye exposure from a Class 2 laser beam, either accidentally or as a result of someone else's deliberate action (misuse) will be protected from injury by their own natural aversion response.
This is a natural involuntary response which causes the individual to blink and avert their head thereby terminating the eye exposure.

Repeated, deliberate exposure to the laser beam may not be safe.

Some laser pointers and barcode scanners are Class 2 laser products

** The Jaycar 10mW Green Laser module is though.

** Mind reader are you ???????????

My reply was to Allan - who specifically mentioned the Jaycar green
module.

Mr Wilson can justify his own post anytime.

Seemings though most standard pointers are around 1mW, this green one is
10mW.
Jaycar sell them, but doesn't mean they're not illegal. Interesting to know
though.

Plenty on eBay like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Super-High-Brightness-Green-Laser-Pointer-3kms-NR_W0QQitemZ5824718157QQcategoryZ14954QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
That one has gone for as low as $76, if that is "low cost" enough for
you?
Plenty of others up to 200mW+ on there.

Oatley have a 40mW Green laser, not exactly cheap though at $270
