Looking for primer on tone generator/probe set

I getting a new tone generator and probe for work, but I've never used one
before. I get the idea, and I've read the documentation over the Net, but
are there any good Web sites with primers on how to use these things?

I'll be using it to trace preinstalled CAT-5 cable in private homes for
setting up home networks. They usually all come together in a large bundle
at one end, and it just takes too long to twist a pair of wires together in
one room and check for continuity on every wire at the other end.

Thanks.

Ask in the comp.dcom.cabling newsgroup. There's a cabling FAQ posted
there every two weeks.

Split the pairs when you're toning Cat5 cable. It makes it easier to
detect.

I know CAT 5 cable has twisted pairs, but I don't understand what you mean
by "split the pairs."

I can see you didn't take my advice and read the cabling FAQ.

Nor did you ask this in that newsgroup. It's not on topic here.

Found the FAQ in a Google search. Not much info, however. I see to be
learning more just playing with the units on my own (just got it today).
