Looking for Idler for Fisher MC-4550 Audio Component System

The turntable to my 1983 Fisher MC-4550 Audio Component System died.
I was told that I need an idler part no. sfm1915a04e, reference 56.
Does anyone know where I can find one?

I have searched online, but no luck. I am willing to purchase another
stereo in order to harvest the part - does anyone know of another
system that uses the same part?

I would really appreciate any advice!

Thanks, Heather

There are individuals who service old idlers--mostly specialize in much
older equipment than yours, but....

IIRC the procedure, it can sometimes be done without much specialized
equipment. Some techniques involve taking off just enough 'dead' rubber to
revitalize the surface without changing the tt speed (tricky); or
resurfacing the part with new material (like a rubber O-ring), then turning
it back down to original size on a lathe...although for uncritical
applications a drill mounted in a vise might suffice. (Hold a piece of
sandpaper against the rotating idler which is chucked in the drill...keep
checking the size.) Any out-of-roundness will show up as 'rumbling' in the
audio. As mentioned before, incorrect sizing changes the tt speed...if the
speed is variable, some under/oversizing might compensatable.

In any case, the tt in question was almost undoubtedly made by another
manufacturer and OEM'd to Fisher. You should be able to find the
part...somewhere. You'd need to ID the OEM and x-reference....
