Looking for 7 segment LED display

I have a Keithley digital microvoltmeter which has a fault in one of its red
LED display digits. The part is a Fairchild FND561 which is no longer
available. I am having trouble finding a replacement and would appreciate
any suggestions in finding an equivalent, though I'd reckon siomething
should be available.

The display is the leading digit which displayes +/- 1. It is a 13mm DIP
package.

As it has both the 1 and the sign of the signal, its absence makes the meter
of limited use!
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Check the pinout against other 1/2" common cathode types. You will probably
find the pinout is rather standardised.

The meter would be slightly more useful if you swapped the high-order and
low-order digits.

have 595 of them in stock. They specialise in "hard to find, long lead time,
end of life and obsolete components" , take all the major plastic and I've
dealt with them once before. You could enquire using their online form to
see if they really have them. Depends on how badly you want the part.

I need one of them . . And US500 minimum IS a bit on the high side . I could
buy a new instriment for that price.

Problem is that I can't seem to find the "+/-1." configuration elsewhere. .
Plenty of comparable 7-segment digits, but none like this yet.

Who the hell needs to see a " + " sign ???????

Millions of digital displays do fine with just a " - " sign using the
middle bar of a seven segment display. The absence of " - " is taken as
being " + " by default.

Capice?

Nearly any 13mm LED display will get that old Keithley going.

THAT important in the scheme of things!)

I'll give it a try as I have some (wrong colour) 13mm displays. Make sense
and might get me out of a fix. I wonder if it IS that simple?

Are you in Melbourne Dave?

If so, Rockby in Clayton have a surplus store next door to their shop which has
various LED displays, I think I saw one similar to your requirements recently.
 
Thanks - but I'm in Brisbane. I was unaware of Rockby - they are worth

Would an NTE3076 (CA) or NTE3077 (CC) be suitable?

Both are ".560 inch, 7 segment, 1 digit with overflow and +/-, RH
decimal point".

The going price in single quantities appears to be ~US$5.
