It is possible to have a 555 timer output of 1 HZ pulse?

Better still, I would like to try to have the 555 timer at about 1.5 HZ
output, varying between 1 to 2 HZ.

Varying at what rate and under what conditions?
 
Just read the data sheet, available from mational semiconductors, and
others. It gives circuits and calcs.

Try 100ľfd and 100K pot
Be careful the specs might change from one manufacture of a 555 to another
manufacture.
