The optoisolators are just that - isolators. So they have a high
voltage rating, like 1500 volts or even more. Putting more than one
in a package makes that isolation difficult or impossible.

I was looking for a 12 coil/stepper application so 150V would probably be enough.

Although I was not aware there are 4 pin optoisolators which could most likely
sit side by side in the same space.

Look at the Sharp electronics. They make a single 4 pin unit and also
gang them in 2 and 4 units to a package too.

They are not opto-based, but they are isolators : look at Analog Device,
iCoupler chips (4 lines in a chip, very low cost, 100Mbps even if you don't
need that speed...).
