That sounds as good as any other way, maybe replacing the push-button switch
with a microswitch either on the floor of the box or possibly sensing
something going through the flap (although that wouldn't detect things put
in via the lid).

Must be an American. Doesn't know the difference between 'advise' and
'advice'. Has a broken shift key, too.

Cordless doorbell -- wouldn't work in Australia because it's so far from the
letterbox to the kitchen ;-)

** This topic was discussed here in February last year under "letter box
delivery and vandal alarm" - do a Google Groups advanced search on the
exact phrase "letter box delivery" and put "aus.electronics" in the NG box.

** Try again - if you cannot work out how to use Google Groups then you
do not deserve help.

I did something just like this to make a gate alarm for my mum - two
microswitches (so it turns off when the gate is fully closed and fully
open), and a long range wireless doorbell that cost $25. It had the
added bonus of repeating the chime while the gate continued to be
ajar.

Cheers,

Alex.
