hi, i want to make a led torch , something simple , that runs of 2 , maybe
4 , 1.5 volt battteries .
and to power 2 or 4 white leds.

is there a driver to make bit more efficent use of battery and leds ?
something that uses transistors etc , NOT ic`s.

thanks,
mark k

What a neat site. Check out the pics of the guy electrocuting himself.
Just go up the the bigclive folder and scroll to the bottom of the page.

Sounds like a simple constant current source.
Google it.

He said efficient. And he already got a far better answer from 'Ecnerwal'.

I wish I could get a decent answer to my question on phase controllers. Got
to vent spleen for a moment here... Is Usenet fading out? Seems to be a few
serious people who keep to their own stuff, they help each other out but
virtuually ignore the rest of us. The rest seems to be handbags-at-dawn going
on for days between people who enjoy being tetchy to each other, and a few
sporadic posts that either go unanswered, or get answered by trite remarks
from smartasses who can't be bothered to read what they're answering. It's
not often been this bad in the last year or two, and I hope it gets better.

If I find an answer to my own question on phase controllers without blowing
up a decent drill trying it, I doubt I'll bother to post the answer as no-one
seems to care enough to help me. Obviously, I won't help in turn by supplying
info, especially as it's blindingly obvious that no-one here or in s.e.d.
cares anyway.
/rant. But it had to happen, as asking nicely for several days wasn't cutting
it, was it?

Maybe nobody knows? That's what I figure happened.

Fair enough. Could be so. There's usually enough high erudition floating
around here for me to doubt that though. I got a couple of answers, and added
some thoughts of my own about the subject. All feedback welcome. Even flames
are better than what I saw before.
