LCD or LED 4 Digit Display Blocks in smaller geometry

Hi all,

I'am looking for smaller standard 4 digit LED or LCD display
'modules'. The overall width (W) of the module should be no
more than 20 mm. I think that the digit itself may have then 3..5 mm

You can find some nice but rather expensive 4-char LED
displays -- check for the HCMS series from Agilent available
at Digikey (www.digikey.com).

Osram also makes similar intelligent LED displays - check
their SLIMLINE series ---

They are very nice -- similar to displays you would see in
pro video editing suites.
