Knife switch, anyone, anyone?

I'm looking for a good old-fashioned mongo DPDT knife switch. Like, 4
inches across if possible.

Radio Shack sells a modern teeny styrene one but in my head the it
should somehow be big and heavy, thick bakelite or even better
ceramic.

Are these in current use anywhere in the electrical trade, or just
collector's items?

Tim,

Will search classic ee oldies stash and report. I do beleive I have
what I call a Frankenstein switch.

I still see these in hardware stores every now and again.

They were in regular us in Spain of all places, we have a selection displayed on
our home website:

http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel/Switchboard/Generator.htm

Although most ours are new, we don't have any 'spares' for sale, but if you need
one and nothing else will do, have a look on ebay http://www.ebay.es (Spain)

Look inside mains disconnect wall boxes, You'll see DPST knife switch
construction. Or do you really want a vanity device?

Can't you make one with a large hacksaw blade, and the wooden handle
from a skipping rope? I'm not sure what you'd use for the clips part,
maybe bits of a fuse holder pressed together.

I'm sure it's the sort of thing that was described in the old books
for boys about electricity.
