I have a Kenmore microwave (Model 99921 or 564.9998210) that has served me
faithfully other than replacing the magnetron about 15 years ago, and now
has two irritations.
The first is the beeper - it doesn't beep very well. Actually, I prefer it
that way, but the family complains. The particular piezo on that circuit
board (Sanyo 11355, EM3826 P/C-1) has 3 leads on it and has 1E4 printed on
it. What's happened is that one of the particular traces, if you can call
them that, that has a lead soldered to it has lifted and come loose from the
disc. I tried resoldering the lead farther down the trace, but all I get
for sound is some very faint buzzing or a very low volume chirp. This leads
me to conclude that the mechanical failure is the problem, rather than a
driver or such. I have played with some 2-lead devices to no avail. Anyone
know of a source for the proper part? I tried Sears and they only sell the
complete board for something like $195 - NOT. I'll do without before that.
The other issue is with the fan. It sounds like it isn't always coming up
to speed, or at least not right away. I have thoroughly disassembled,
cleaned, and lubricated it more than once. When it's running and then you
shut off the power, it takes a while for it to stop spinning, all of which
leads me to rule out lube or bearings. I measured the voltage across it and
it's full line voltage, and measuring the coil resistance reads what the
wiring diagram says it should be. I've decided to let it run and see what
happens, but I'm a little concerned about not cooling the magnetron well
enough to protect it. Any thoughts?
