JVC Tuner problem

My VCR, a JVC HR-S4600U took a power/lighting surge through the
antenna connection (my best guess).

The VCR can play back tapes just fine. The problem is no cable
stations can be displayed. Only a Blue screen is shown. I assume the
tuner is shot. Can it be repaired? Can it be replaced? JVC lists one
for $115 - ouch!!!

Is this an easy repair? (Solder out the old one, solder in a new one?)
Can the tuner be opened up and fixed? What do I test/look for?

Besides the tuner could the surge affect any other component?

Thanks for your help!

The tuner module is complex to service, and is not considered a serviceable
part. If it is more than a simple cold solder connection inside, the cost of
the labour itself would exceed the value of the module. Specialized
calibration and test equipment is also required in order to service the
tuner and IF sections in debt. The signal characteristics are very complex.

In the service shops we generally replace tuner and IF units as a complete
module, unless the fault condition is simple.
