JVC HRVP590u VCR blew during last week's NY blackout

I have no power at all in the unit. I just opened it up and noticed the fuse
has a greenish black stain in the middle and the filaments inside seem to be
broken. It's an E1.25A/250V fuse. I just checked Radio Shack online and
they don't seem to carry it. I'm assuming most repair stores would have it.
Does Home Depot carry fuses of this sort?

Does anyone have other ideas if this isn't the problem? I've searched the
Google groups and noticed that JVC VCR's seem to have a real problem with
power surges and losses of power. I've seen references to capicitors such as
c18,c33,c34 r21 or c33. Are these clearly marked on the board and how easy
is it to pull out one of these things? I tried to and it's not exactly like
ram memory!

I don't have an ESR meter to test the capacitors. Would either of these
multimeters do the trick? I appreciate any and all help. I'm going to try
to buy a replacement fuse tomorrow. I'm guessing it's no more than a few
bucks.

A fuse shouldn't cost more than 75 cents if you can find someone that will
sell just one. (They usually come 5 to a box) I'm guessing you got a pretty
husky power surge into it. It probably took out a transistor & maybe a few
diodes.
If the fuse doesn't fix it then I would guess it's toast.
