JVC HR-S8000U Display

Picked up an HR-S8000U on EBay. Display is very dim but gets brighter on the
right. From the info gathered on a goggle search this seems to be a common
problem with JVC's of this era. I believe the capacitors in the powersupply
will need replacing. When I wrote the seller back asking why he didn't
mention the fact that the display was bad, he responded that the unit has a
variable illumination feature. I don't have a manual yet to verify, but
there are no settings I can find on the front panel. Can anyone confirm
this? Also does anyone have a copy of the manual to download.

This VCR may have a variable illumination, but the display should be evenly
lit. I have a feeling that the display unit ( glass tube type assy) may be
getting weak. If it was evenly lit but dim, then it could be something to
do with the drives to it, or the supply voltages, or it being evenly weak.

The machine is old, and the seller probably sold it off for good reason. I
rarely have found used equipment in so-called perfect working condition. The
sellers get rid of it, because of some reason. If their equipment was
working so well, then why would they sell it???

You have to ask yourself the same question: Would I sell my VCR, or
whatever, since it is working well...?

Check the displayglass inside the front and the display itself for dirt.
Smoke, dirt everything will set down on it even it's inside the vcr.
