Even after the perpetrator of a bizarre animal cruelty case received her
sentence, questions still remain. On Monday, June 10, The Oregonian
reported that a homeless Oregon woman who kidnapped and tortured a
neighbor's cat was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 18 months of probation.
On Monday, Ashley Guldager, 21, was ordered by a Clackamas County
Circuit judge to participate in mental health and substance abuse programs.
Guldager was staying at a friend's home in April 2013 when she took the cat.
The circumstances of this case are fairly disturbing, prosecutor
Sarah Dumont told Clackamas County Circuit Judge Heather Karabeika.
According to the Oregonian, Guldager tied the cat to a table with jumper
cables. Deputies found a razor and scissors near the table. These tools
were used to shave the cat.
Guldager also inserted a tampon into the animal. A person living in the
house discovered the deceased cat and notified the authorities.
The nine-year-old cat, Mamma Kitty, had gone missing three three days
earlier.
According to a necropsy report, the cat died of asphyxiation. Guldager
admitted to animal abuse in the first degree and and theft in the second
degree. She may not possess any domestic animals for 15 years.
Guldager offered no explanation for her actions. According to her
defense lawyer, Scott Thompson, Guldager has dealt with both mental
health problems and physical abuse.
She really doesnt understand why she did what she did, stated
her attorney, Scott Thompson.
