Usenet is world-wide. You should mention location so as to
not waste the time of those on other coninents. (It's in
Placerville, CA USA, folks - roughly between Sacramento
and Reno. Nice area.)

BTW, I have seen these folk's external microphone preamplifier
in use in various recording studios. It has no input transformer
and keeps the signal balanced from end-to end. Not cheap, though;
$500 to $1000 per channel depending on how many channels you buy.
The kind of consoles these things are hooked to have quite good
mic amps already, but I could hear the difference on solo piano,
solo violin, and some vocals. They also have some interesting
boxes that let you switch between vacuum tubes an JFETs with
everything else being the same.

Well, it is PCfornia - not like AZ, where people are still allowed to
carry their equalizer. ;-)
The old-time name for Placerville is Hangtown, as in "Get a rope".

That is indeed a nice area. Has to be, since I live just 10 miles from
there... ;-)

Being a country person, Placerville is about the only city I could
contemplate living in. They left most of it just as it was back in 1850,
even the old hardware store is still there where you can buy stuff from
these large wooden cabinet drawers. Luckily this city grew before those
dreaded zoning laws came into effect. That means that they don't fold up
the sidewalks at night but you can still stroll down Main Street. Every
time we take visitors there they can't believe such little cities still
exist. Heck, we even have our own little micro brewery.

Oh, anybody who thinks about moving here should be very familiar with
mounting chains on their cars. Going to need that skill. A lot.

You went down on an old shaft in the back seat of a car?

Hey, an analogue job, I could do that.........
Wonder what I did with my CV?
Can I be paid in euros?

martin

Serious error.
All shortcuts have disappeared.
Screen. Mind. Both are blank.

Hi Rich,

***ONE*** micro-brewery? In Placerville? ONE??????

I don't believe it for a second. I used to live on Beale AFB, about 20
miles inland from Marysville. There is Much Beer in that country, my
friend. :)
Yes, there are some more around the city limits. Like Jack Russell in
Camino. We usually go to Hangtown Brewpub to have lunch and fill a
growler for the evening. Good ol' country pub with great ales and heated
by a monster-size wood stove.

And for anyone moving here who doesn't like beer: No worries, we also
feature great wineries out here. Lots of them. So even Jim would be happy.
