The photos are not loading / showing on their
"New Years Sale" PDF.

http://www1.jaycar.com.au/fliers.asp

I am running Adobe Acrobat PDF reader version 5.
It is the highest number available for Windows 95.

I never had a problem before with Jaycar's PDFs.

Anybody having same problem or is it the
Jaycar's PDF maker's fault ?

MrT.
Same here. Opens fine with Acrobat Reader V6.0.2 under XP, but the pictures
don't show up when opened using V5.

Perhaps they should have distilled it to be compatible with earlier
versions. Mind you V6 has been out for a while now, with V7.0 the latest
offering. Don't know which version is the latest for Win95 though, but if
V5.0 is the latest I reckon you better pick up the printed copy or live
without the pictures.

If you must see the pics, your other option is to search the Jaycar website
by product number and view the pics in your browser.

Cheers,
Alan

So what, it's a small version of windows, works well on older
machines. I run it on this box and it appears the latest Acrobat
reader is 5.0.5 for Bills condom 95 and for Linux 5.0.10 (will try
that later)
Acrobat reader is just one program, no reason to condemn an operating
system for being obsolete. Apart from some missing pictures the Jaycar
stuff looked OK to me.

*** The original poster was only talking about one program and he admitted
he could not load any version of Adobe Reader higher than 5.The latest
version is 7.0 which ,if used by Jaycar cannot be read by the OP.Ergo, his
Windows 95 is obsolete! The original problem is STILL the OPs fault.

Pull your head in.
Win95 is great for older hardware.P166 at work with Win95 & Office95 runs
faster than our new Xp PC's (its used for print runs)
Your attitude is the same as our (contracted) Network admin. Decided Win98 was
obselete
so pulled 2 PC's off the network that the company coulnt afford to replace at
that time. So I was left without a PC/workstation : therefore no invoicing for
the next 3 weeks, I generate purchase orders, check emails or various other
parts of my job.

Are you suggesting he should spend $1000 on a new PC just to open
1 pdf file.

I have version 6.0 of Acrobat Reader on my windows box

Precisely the point. A lot of people won't dump Linux either just
because one lousy company can't provide the latest reader for a lousy
PDF.
I guess they will eventually provide a later one for Linux. IIRC the
later Acrobat reader needs Internet Exploder as well. There is a plot
developing here I think :)
Win 95 is still quite good if you use alternative software with it and
although M'cock no longer supports this condom and now aparently
Adobe, a lot of other people do support it. You can put Open Office
on, Mozilla, etc etc.

It will open, it just won't show some of the pics, big deal. I could
send you something done in a Linux program and you may not be able to
read it either. According to you we must discard an otherwise perfect
computer and software. Wonder why there is a problem with old
computers creating landfill?

Write/Phone/Email Jaycar and politely ask them to use a more backwards
compatible format.

They won't do anything if people don't ask. They simply may not be
aware that there are customers who use platforms other than Win
XP/Acrobat 6.0.

I primarily use Linux. My Windows machine use acrobat Reader 5.0
(version 6.0 is significantly slower than 5.0 so I don't use it).

What are some web designers thinking lately??
Notice how many web sites that you cant get into, 'you must install
Flash, shockwave whatever' before entering the website.

All I wanted was some info on their products.

As an update to this, I downloaded the latest reader for Linux
available from Adobe. My previous Acrobat reader gave me an error so I
went to the trouble of downloading the very latest reader available
for Linux from the Adobe site. As mentioned above the latest available
is 5.0.10. After removing the old one and installing the latest one
available I get a similar message and the only obvious defect is lack
of pictures when looking at this PDF from Jaycar.
Considering that Linux is very powerful and not an obsolete operating
system and you can get the latest quite cheaply, it falls back to
Adobe not providing a reader for it's latest product and has nothing
whatsoever to do with an obsolete operating system. If Adobe provided
a reader for Linux the issue would be solved. If Adobe provided a
reader for win 95, the OPs problems would be solved. If Jaycar made
their PDF backward compatible until a later Acrobat reader became
available the problem would be solved.
So I say to Adobe, to exclude the many Linux users from looking at
their latest PDF documents is IMHO inexcusable.
What did the message say, you ask, yes you do.
"This file may contain newer information than this viewer can support.

It may not open or display correctly. Adobe recommends that you
upgrade to the latest version of our Acrobat products. Please visit
our site at_"
As you can plainly see it does not tell you to upgrade your operating
system, be qbjatenqr gb yngrfg jvaqbjf nf gur pnfr znl or.

Waiting for a Goldsmith selective snip to place what I've written out
of context. When Goldsmith calls everyone a wanker (not that there's
anything wrong with that), he must therefore be a voyeur (not that
there's anything wrong with that.. or is there?). Personally I have no
interest in looking at men masturbate.
