Is there a way to determine the power wire for a window fan

Greetings:

I took a motor out of a window exhaust / ventilation fan, which
circuitry can control speed, thermostat and rotation direction
(exhaust or ventilation). The motor has 6 wires 2 black, gray, red,
white and brown. WHT - BRN measures 100ohm, RED - GRY measures
290ohm, the rest of the wire has Mohm resistance. I can hear the
motor making some noise when applying 115VAC from an outlet directly to
WHT - BRN
and RED - GRY. However, the fan doesn't rotate. Am I missing
something?

Any suggestion and help is greatly appreciated.

Try 115 VAC H to the RED, N to GRY and WHT, and put an AC capacitor of a
few uF, 150 VAC or more in series with H to BRN. The direction will be
determined by whether WHT or BRN goes to the cap. However, the other wires
shouldn't show infinite resistance. This suggestion may not work but since you
already applied power without a meltdown, shouldn't do any worse.

Why didn't you save the other parts!!!?
