Hi - I was wondering - with the vast sea of mosfets available out there -
are there any that stand out as being the most useful, the most used, or
the most important? Thanks alot as always,

Michael

The 2N7000 (TO92) and 2N7002 (SOT23) are devices that probably fit your
description.

Datasheet at:

Their prime advantages include widespread availability at very low cost and
very low capacitances for very high switching speeds with very weak drivers
(simple CMOS logic gates can drive them at several megahertz without much
difficulty). They also feature adequate voltage and current capability for
most low power devices.

For higher power devices I don't think there are any clearly classic
devices, but the IRF510, IRF520, IRF610, and IRF620 are all quite common
parts as well. Those devices are made by several manufacturers, not just
International Rectifier. All of those devices are fairly wimpy and somewhat
obsolete though by todays standards.
