Is it still accurate to simulate on Virtuoso Analog Design

Hi,

Basically, I've designed a ring oscillator and trying to simulate it
in Cadence, Virtuoso Analog Design Environment-v5.1.41. But i'm not
sure whether my simulation results will be accurate as i know mine is
not the latest version.

Thank you for your advise.

Hi,

Short Answer: Go ahead and don't be afraid !

Your ADE version has nothing to do with the accuracy of your results
as long as it translates the right netlist to the underlying
simulator.
Couple of things mainly determine the accuracy of your results:
1. The model file provided by your foundry.
2. Your simulator. A simulator can be more accurate than another. For
example, Spectre achieves a better accuracy than Ultrasim at the
expense of simulation time. The same simulator, say Spectre, can be
tweacked to achieve more or less accuracy, The transient in
conservative mode is more accurate than transient in liberal mode.

You can control the accuracy of your simulator by switching the
available options. But first of all, your simulation model should fit
the silicon as much as possible.

Hope this help !

Cheers,
Riad.
