IPC sets out PCB current guidelines

US industry body IPC has released a standard for the current capacity of tracks on PCBs. Called IPC-2152 'Standard for Determining Current-Carrying Capacity in Printed Board Design', it is a 97page document that "sets the sole industry standard for determining the appropriate sizes of internal and external conductors as a function of the current-carrying capacity required and the acceptable conductor temperature rise", claimed IPC.
