What are the criteria for the selection of the number of phases in a
multiphase buck converter?I mean, you obviously have this increased
complexity of control as you increase the number of phases, but there
as advantages as well.So how does one decide the break-even , so to
speak? If anyone has any analysis on this issue, please advise me.

Thanks and Regards

It depends on waveforms and duty cycle.

One example of the effect on discontinuous inductor current peak
ripple, up to ten stages, is covered by Perreault at MIT.

The actual source harmonic result is ignored.
