Inquiry.. Remote control telephone dialer?

Guest
Are remote control telephone dialers manufactured? I know that
emergency dialers for the elderly are made but you must also sign
up for the service and pay a monthly fee.

It seems to me that a less expensive way should be available for all
of the elderly. Perhaps a remote control on a necklace that would
activate a receiver on the phone line which then would auto dial 911
No service fee needed.

If these units aren't already made then I just gave a money making
idea away. Any entrepreneurs?

Hi...

Perhaps a good idea for some situations (fell in the
bathtub, etc) but for most people technology has passed
it by with shirt pocket sized cell phones?

Just a thought...

You may be right. Aren't non activated cell phones still capable
of dialing 911?

I think so, and many can be programmed for one touch dial. Just hold down
the 9 key and it will dial 911. The problem with a cell phone is that they
have to be able to locate you, and if you can't talk this can be a problem.
Alternatively portable phones can be fairly small, and come with belt clips.
If you can get it to dial 911, the authorities can track it.

Dunno, it they aren't then they sure should be!

I do know for a fact that if you take a "dead"
(non activated) cell phone here and dial any number
the MTS (Manitoba Telephone System) operator will
answer (after a couple of menu prompts)
I can't imagine of any operator anywhere even
thinking of refusing to send an ambulance or
police)

Take care

My parents are in their 80's. I went out and got them each a cell phone. I
took a minimum plan since they are using very little time on it. I paid the
full price on the phones so I don't need a contract. Since this is an
emergency phone situation, they get 30 minutes free, and after that it is
$0.50 per minute. The base cost is about $15 per month per phone, including
the taxes. On the billing, they rarely exceed about 15 to 20 minutes a
month.

I think this is the best thing I did for them. We can all find each other at
any time, and I can know if they are doing okay. If there is an emergency,
they just have to call for help. Infact, these phones have earned their
value, many times over.

Doesn't require a service fee. Just dials a number that you program in.
