Pharma advertising drives up health costs
A new CHOICE report shows pharmaceutical advertising targeted at
general practitioners likely increases the cost of the Pharmaceutical
Benefits Scheme (PBS) and hits consumers hard. The report, Pushing
Pills, found 93% of advertisements aimed at GPs for high-blood
pressure medicines were for newer medicines still under patent, which
are not necessarily more effective than older treatments.

Global Pharma market predicted to more than double in value to $1.3
trillion by 2020: Industry must transform to capitalise on
opportunities
The global pharmaceutical market will more than double in value to
$1.3 trillion by 2020, according to a new report on the future of the
pharmaceutical industry released today by PricewaterhouseCoopers. By
2020 the E7 countries - Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico,
Russia and Turkey - could account for as much as one fifth of global
pharmaceutical sales.

Indian pharmaceutical industry is projected to grow to US $ 25 billion
by 2010
According to a McKinsey study, the Indian pharmaceutical industry is
projected to grow to US $ 25 billion by 2010 whereas the domestic
market is likely to more than triple to US$ 20 billion by 2015 from
the current US$ 6 billion to become one of the leading pharmaceutical
markets in the next decade.
