Hi
I am need of some advice please. I would like to upgrade my hand built
Pentium 2 MMX PC which runs W98SE. Currently I have 64Mb on board 2 x
32mb. A program which has checked out my PC informs me that I have two
slots free and the maximum I can upgrade the memory to is 128Mb and
the maximum one slot can take is 32mb. There seems to be a baffling
variety of SIMMS available.
My questions are:
If upgrading, do I have to buy memory that is fully compatible with
the memory already installed?
Which SIMM spec do I choose?
50ns, 60ns or 70ns? Parity or Non-Parity? Tin or Gold? Fast Page Mode
or EDO? Is the voltage of 5v important? Also 2/4k Reflash mode, is
this significant?
I have had a good look around the web but there was not really a site
I could find that would answer all my questions. Maybe because SIMMs
are a little long in the tooth now. Do you know a good web site?
I have logged onto the Kingston web site but for them to advise they
need to know the make and model of the PC but as mine is hand built I
cannot answer this question.
Is there a good UK site to buy the memory?
Any advice gratefully received.
Many thanks
