i am trying to source a replacement for this semiconductor used in
mitsubishi distributor ignitors. its used to fire the coil.

its marked M67580 but i can find no refernce to it on the mitsubishi
website.

is believed to be an IGBT in a TO247 case.

The Mitsubishi IGBT (Insulated Gate Bi-Polar Transistor) in the OEM
module has to deal with grounding the ignition coil directly, so it
has to safely handle around 10 amp and be able to surpress a reverse
spike up to 300V, otherwise the PCM would be toast. This is why they
use that big IGBT.

im drawn to the International Rectifier IRG4PH30 K or KD but i dont
know if the mitsubishi item had an internal diode or wether i need
one..

you can see more of what i need the replacement for here:

http://www.incony.org/KLZEWiki/pwp_1-4-2/wiki/run.php?iRequest=wiki/ViewPage&iPage=HEI

and though i can use an aftermarket module to do the job i would like
to find a replacement for the existing ignitor.

thanks.

I would like to suggest that IR only makes one IGBT that will switch with
5v. It is the IRGSL14C40L. ( TO220 ).
It is designed for this type of application with gate and collector
over/under voltage protection.
Good luck
Ray
