Doesnt surprise me, Win98 is pretty much obsolete, has been for a long
time for most people - and we have an aus. company still selling a kit
that hasn't been updated in order to work with the current and most
common versions of windows these days ie: XP and win 2000.

Isnt technology wonderful ;)

Not for port acess.

Get port95nt.exe
http://www.lpilsley.freeserve.co.uk/download/port95nt.exe
http://www.driverlinx.com/DownLoad/dnload.htm#Windows%2095/NT%20Port%20I/O%20Driver
(or search on google)

It allows older programs(without port drivers for 2000 or xp)
to access ports(doesn't work for everything)

I use that for parallel port acess with winpicprog , xilinx impact(and)
others.

To be fair, this kind of project appears best suited for dedicated
control and monitoring tasks. I don't think dedicating a new
multitasking computer and OS for such a job is economically prudent
for a hobbyist. In fact, one could use an old 486 plus MS-DOS, or even
4DOS which is free and still being developed and supported.

I reccomend Linux and GCC compiler. It is no more difficult than
programming under DOS. Much better support for networked devices too.

To be fair, 4DOS isn't an OS, it's an enhanced replacement for command.com
and still requires a Microsoft OS to operate "on top of".

Try "Free DOS" if you want a complete OS.
