I don't get quite where you're coming from here, I'm sure it is off topic but since we're here...
Safety is an anaethma to me. I think seat belts and air bags in cars should be illegal. Instead put big spikes in the dash on the driver's side so that if the stupid fuck doesn't watch where he's going and hits something he gets impaled. This will cure the assholes who think proper following distance is one inch per hundred miles per hour. Of course the doors are reinforced with I beams and sbit so if you get Tboned you're alright.
Guards on saws. First of all, a guard on a table saw is the worst goddam thing ever. Second of all, if you are so clumsy or infirm that you might fall on that blade or stupid enough to stick your hand on it, should you REALLY be doing carpentry ?
Even worse are those saws with the electronic brake that stops the blade in microseconds if your hand touches it. Now what happens when someone gets used to one of those and then later has to use a saw without that "feature". That "feature" might make them stupid enough to cut their hand off on a normal saw. What's more, electronics do break down, no question. Otherwise this newsgroup would not be here. So if that little sensor or solenoid stops working and someone cuts their hand off on a saw YOU guaranteed would NOT cut their hand off, guess who gets a bunch of money.

Then you get a structured setlement from a class action lawsuit, and then sell that settlement to J G Wentworth for half its value and in the end, the culpable party never paid a dime. You just borrowed the interest on it. The stupidity of all this shitis overwhelming, really. In the only country to put a Man on the moon. I used to be one of the best TV techs, and I can tell you that in the nbame of safety there is more shit in there that stops it from working than makes it work ! Reality is it makes it alot harder to troubleshoot sometimes. Increases repair costs, which is good for the manufacturer. In the old days, when the TV didn't have a good picture and was billowing smoke we would generally turn it off and call the TV Man. (well, we used to fix all of our own stuff, seriously) But that was common sense. People watched the TV. They watched their show, or there was a movie on that they found out about from the PAPER TV guide. Starts at eight, we'll turn the TV on at about 7:30 and let it get goood and warmed up. Then when the credits roll at the end we turn it off. We don't lock all the kids in a room with fucking Sponge Bob all day. That breeds more idiots.
We used to spend time with kids. Kids cannot learn from other kids, they must learn from adults.
And that is the fucvking problem, literally. Fucing makes kids, and the wrong people are fucking. the useless biomass is reproducing alot faster than us useful Men and Women. The useless are fucking up this world and I am all for not saving them from their fate anymore. Let Darwin's theory prevail, really.
Come on, if you but an RV ith cruise control there is a sticker that says "When using the cruise control you must still steer the vehicle" because someone took it as they could set the cruise control and go in the back, and probaably fuck to make another piece of biomass that should have been recycled before it was born for all the good it would do the human race.

Can't disagree much. Do you think schools are a good medium for this ? I have started to think that schools, at least government run schools are no good.

OK, the TV tech thing, I as good enough to beat out 154 applicants at Electra Sound, and fixed 8-10 sets a day with no recalls. I also fixed the oes nobody else couls figure out. I had a system for troubleshooting that I found impossibe to teach anyone else.
About seat belts, I as the front seat passenger in a 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix that slammed into one of those big telephone oles, the kind that don't break. The people in the back seat slammed into the front seat with so much force that the front seat was pushed so far forward that I could not reach the door handle to open it. If I had been wearing a seat belt I would be in a wheelchair.
A motorcycle helmet is useless. Only thing it is good for is if someone throws a rock at you. I do agree about having to wear glasses because there can be shit flying around in the air, kicked up by people's tires etc. Of course, plus if you are driving around blinded you create a hazard for others. This is where the line is drawn. And well should be. But the helmet will facilitate you bcoing a vegetable rather than dead. I don't want to sound like I am putting down people who are crippled, but I would just as soon die. Just don't tell them that because I don't want to insult them. If you have problems, my apologies, but facts are facts.
I believe people put too much stock in life. We are all going to die someday so there is no sense in fearing it. There are types of hurt that are worse, look at how much business Kevorkian got. they sactually even sell suicide kits. I guess some ppeople agree, it ain't worth the suffering sometimes.

I also think that if someone changes three lanes within so many feet there should be a device in the car that shocks their genitals. That would do more for traffic safety rather than that which will instill a sense of invulnerability.

But with all this, what I would do and all that, I wil not ride a motorcycle on the streets. I would ride a dirt bike for fun. I would do alot of stupid shit for fun. But I think it is foolhardy to ride in traffic. People are just too damn dumb out there.
You know, if you can drive, you can drive after a few drinks. You can drive on the cellphone. You can drive and eat.
However, if you can just barely do it under optimal conditions, you should pay 100 % attention to it. People don't know how to back out of a damn parking spot. They don't know the width odf their car and you can't see the front fenders. Alot of them lack the spatial reasoning and could never drive a big truck. Though not licensed to do so, I have driven a big truc and let me tell you it is no trivial matter. What's more, people in cars make it a nightmare. These days, my poor eyesight makes it so I would not even try it.. That is called not being stupid. I also won't drive a car under alot of conditions, too bright sun, raining and dark, things like that. I don't even like driving anywhere I haven't been before. I can technically pass the eyue test becaause they are not testing for what is wrong with me. Goes to show you how efficient the government is at saving us fron ourselves.
They fail, and take all the fun out of life. Man, when we were kids we stood up in the back seat and Dad would punch it throwing us violently into the seat. It was fun as hell and we did not get hurt. You couldn't get the smile off my face when these fast cars were accelerating.
Then when I got older I once got a ticket for flying in a car. How many people do you know who can say that ? LOL. But it isn't bullshit. I should have saved the ticket but I am pretty sure they took it when I paid it. Should have made a copy of it for proof. but I was much younger and you could get away with that shit. People were not on cellphones because nobody had them.. The cars were like tanks. And people I truly believe were healthier. Their bones did not brea as easily, they qwere just tougher. W eused to get into street fights and barroom brawls. Next morning "Damn I'm sore". Nopw everybody goes to the hospital and tries to find someone to sue.
And let's not even get into the treehouse thihng. Treehouses were where the kids learned some of the things you mentioned. Back in the day, little Johnny falls out of the treehouse and breaks his arm. The adults at that house take him a few blocks down the road to the family doctor and call the Parents because they have to be there for the kid to get it worked on. Sure, the doc can manipultate it and get the bones back in place to get rid of most of the pain, but they have to be there to give permission for anything else, and of course pay the TWENTY BUCKS. OK it was a little more than that, butnot like today. With CAT scans and Xrays and three neurosurgeons, and then three prescriptions, nohgody can afford that. So now there is insurance.
If not for insurance, things would cost less. A CAT scan would be fifty bucks. A car bumper would be fifty bucks. But no, you need to martgage your house to get a CAT scan, and a taillight lens for your car is a $300 piece of plastic.
The market would never bear this shit if not for the socialism of insurance..

They fail, and take all the fun out of life. Man, when we were kids we stood up in the back seat and Dad would punch it throwing us violently into the seat. It was fun as hell and we did not get hurt. You couldn't get the smile off my face when these fast cars were accelerating.
Then when I got older I once got a ticket for flying in a car. How many people do you know who can say that ? LOL. But it isn't bullshit. I should have saved the ticket but I am pretty sure they took it when I paid it. Should have made a copy of it for proof. but I was much younger and you could get away with that shit. People were not on cellphones because nobody had them.. The cars were like tanks. And people I truly believe were healthier. Their bones did not brea as easily, they qwere just tougher. W eused to get into street fights and barroom brawls. Next morning "Damn I'm sore". Nopw everybody goes to the hospital and tries to find someone to sue.
And let's not even get into the treehouse thihng. Treehouses were where the kids learned some of the things you mentioned. Back in the day, little Johnny falls out of the treehouse and breaks his arm. The adults at that house take him a few blocks down the road to the family doctor and call the Parents because they have to be there for the kid to get it worked on. Sure, the doc can manipultate it and get the bones back in place to get rid of most of the pain, but they have to be there to give permission for anything else, and of course pay the TWENTY BUCKS. OK it was a little more than that, butnot like today. With CAT scans and Xrays and three neurosurgeons, and then three prescriptions, nohgody can afford that. So now there is insurance.
If not for insurance, things would cost less. A CAT scan would be fifty bucks. A car bumper would be fifty bucks. But no, you need to martgage your house to get a CAT scan, and a taillight lens for your car is a $300 piece of plastic.
The market would never bear this shit if not for the socialism of insurance..

I hear ya Man. Food companies don't give a shit, and what's more they da,mnear get away with what they want because of lobbyists. That is whyt there are so many medical problems, the food is no good. (I am speaking about the US mainly, alot of people in other countries wouldn't touch our shit with a ten foot pole)
So they use a SWAT team to stamps out the sales of raw milk which is nowhere near as dangerous as they make out, but put sugar and hydrogenated oils in foods.
Of am of the ilk who believes that certain businesses should be regulated, otherwise generally libertarian. I think small Mom and Pop businesses should be largely left alone. I think restaurants should be inspected from time to time. the way they do it now with all the code requirements it makes it cost twice as much to build a commercial kitchen, and for nothing. In six months the place could be covered with grease and hav e million cockroaches crawling around. They could have cooked and raw meat together. Ever watch Hell's Kitchen or Kitchen Nightmares ? I didn't notice any inspectors there except the guy on the show. I did not see any "condemned" signs there. So the system does not work.
You know, there are people in this world who are responsible and do want to do what's right. If they own a restaurant they set high standard for clenliness for example. If they build an automobile it will not be unsafe because they are "socially" responsible. They take care to not hurt anyone because it is wrong, not because they wioll get in trouble.
There are fewer and fewer such people it seems. That is why they have to be regulated.
Some, the few, could be just fine in an anarchy. They would not need speed limits because they would look at the road and say "Oh, this is a side street so I'll only go X miles per hour". In fact even today most people do slow down below the speed limit when the roads are slick etc., and then some do not.
I would like to find a shitload of people who are responsible adults who do tae care for the rights and wellbeing of others and we all go to somewhere, take over some land and just be by ourselves and let the idiots all kill each other.
