But black & magenta are fine.

Tried changing colour cartridge & drivers.

Any ideas?

Make sure contacts for the cartridges in the carrier, are clean and dry. I
have used DNA 90% to clean these contacts in the past with good results. New
cartridges are a must, not ones someone has attempted to refill. Check the
contacts on the cartridges for fingerprints, Etc. Beyond that it may be a
logic problem in the printer, communication problem between the computer and
printer, or errors in the driver programme. Make sure the driver you are
using is specific to the CJ840C, check with HP.com for downloads or upgrades
if you already haven't. Cheers.

90+% of the time this type of symptom is a defective color cartridge or
bad/dirty contacts between the cartridge and the gold pins. Suggest
cleaning the pins and the cartridge contacts with electrical contact cleaner
or 99% isopropyl alcohol and then trying again.

If still no luck, then go through a printer hardware reset procedure. I
think it is done as follows:

Open lid, remove both cartridges and flip down the cartridge levers
Power down printer leaving lid open
Remove power cord and communication cable to computer from printer for 30
seconds minimum
Return power cord and com cable
Replace both cartridges, assure levers fully depressed and locked
Close the printer lid
Power on the printer and it will go through a reset cycle

If this still does not work, get another printer cartridge. If this
verifies the previous cartridge was defective, check the date on it and if
it was defective, it will be warranted by HP and you should be able to get a
free replacement. Check their web site.

Good luck

Bob
