HP 4L manual feed repaired.

I've had this HP 4L printer for nine years and never had a problem with it.
Recently, a problem occurred where the single sheet feeder wasn't working.
Inserting the paper manually into the single sheet feeder slot would activate
the power and grab the paper as it should. However, when the print job was
sent, the paper would not advance any more and the paper light would blink. I
replaced the pickup roller and the manual feed roller. It still didn't operate
correctly. I noticed that the plate attached to the solenoid for the single
sheet feeder had some sticky stuff on it. I had to vigorously scrub the gunk
off of the plate before it was clean. That fixed the problem.

I hope this helps another 4L owner out there.

Have had our HP 4L since Spring 1993, and never a problem - just clean
it periodically. They must have built them really well back then. Been
very satisfied with it; good printer.

Agreed. I have a 4L and a 4P and favor those two printers over anything I've
worked with up to the present day. Only have about $75 in both of them and
they both look and work like new.

HP.com gives free kits that correct the paper feed issue for alot of
their printer models.
