Apparently my A650 got moisture-damaged so the PC board needs to be
replaced.

How hard is it to do this? Any give me instructions?

Thanks

Getting it apart is fairly messy. Putting it back together is hell.
Take photos with another digital camera so you remember where things
fit.

Any give me instructions?

(Same thing)

Learn by Destroying(tm), which means that if you have trashed a
similar camera in the past, you have no chance of fixing another one.

It should just fall off. It's held in place by 3 plastic "latch" tabs
that hold the back cover. When the back cover is removed, the top
cover should pivot on some tabs in front and just fall off. There are
no screws holding it in place.

These directions gave me a good start. But after removing all the
screws and the back cover, the front cover refuses to budge along the
top edge, though I have the bottom edge loose.

Can anyone help??

Any ideas?

Thanks for your response Jeff, but nothing is falling off! :)
Dunno. If you look at the links I posted, the author doesn't even
bother mentioning removing the top because it falls off so easily. No
clue what's happening.

So the 3 plastic latch tabs that were holding the back cover are part
of the front cover, not part of the chassis?
The 3 tabs in the photo are part of the front cover as in:
<http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6cT1OQdG4c/Smx27O1J4UI/AAAAAAAAAdo/ZeXbm2eO4Zs/s320/05.JPG>
As I recall, once you release the 3 tabs, and assuming you removed all
the screws shown in:
<http://camerarepaired.blogspot.com/2009/07/disassembling-canon-powershot-a650.html>
the plastic should just fall off.

The top edge of the
front cover is very tight and cannot be persuaded off, even though we
have the bottom loose.
Make sure you have all the screws removed. The rest is jiggling,
wiggling, and prying. Just resist the temptation to apply brute
force.

Is the curved part on the front that covers the batteries (below the
zoom control) part of the front parnel, or is separate? Can't get
either one loose, separately or together. If separate, which comes
off first?
Seperate. It's very clear in the photos. Please look at them again.
The back comes off first, then the top, then the front, and then part
of the battery mess.

By the way, none of the buttons on the back panel are working. Also
the zoom control does not work, the camera automatically goes to 24X
zoom when turned on. The shutter usually does not work.

Any ideas? I assume the electronic module behind the back push
buttons is screwed, but would that mess up the zoom too? Anyway to
test this module? It looks fine, not corrosion, no apparent water
damage.

Well, that's a different problem.

My guess(tm) is that one of the ribbon connectors has either fallen
loose, or is now filled with dirty water and corrosion.

I can't tell from here what died, but unless you have replacement
electronics and parts handy, or the problem is trivial, this adventure
is not going to lead to a repaired camera. I don't have a service
manual or schematic so I can't identify which chips does what. Sorry.
