Hi,

Does anyone know how to connect VCD (or DVD) audio two cables to old TV
antenna cable jack without using any modulator?

Any thought?

Without using a modulator? I don't think that is possible.

The audio out cables (left and right) from the DVD/VCD are normal
line level audio signals. They are meant to go to an audio
amplifier and not a tuner (i.e., where your TV antenna cable jack
goes to). The modulator simply packs them into a TV channel
format so that the TV's tuner can pull them out again. If you
don't have line level audio inputs on the TV and you don't want
to use a modulator, I think that you are out of luck.

The request seems a tad odd though. What are you doing with the
video output of the VCD? If it is provided as a standard TV
channel format, the audio channels would already be included in
it. Or are you just trying to use your TV as an audio amplifier
for CDs?

Can't do it without an RF modulator. Just go to Best Buy or Wal-Mart and
buy an RF Modulator for about $15
 
Agreed!! You can't safely re-engineer the circuit. Even a broken VCR which
the tuner and AV inputs are functional on will work.

buy an RF Modulator for about $15

remove Macrovision, the RF modulator is the way to go.

In "real-time," the answer is "no." A VCR can only generate RF Out
when in playback mode, and only from tapes. When tuning or recording,
all the VCR's "RF Out" does is tap the existing "Antenna (RF) In."

Incorrect. Some VCRs might have this limitation but typically not.

What is Macrovision? Is this some type of copy protection thing?

I ask because I recently got a DVD player, and since I have an older TV, I
connect the DVD to the RCA ins on my VCR. The picture, though, kind of fades
in and out until it blue screens, then fades back in and then back out. I'm
guessing this is some type of copy protection scheme (although it works fine
on some DVDs). I have no interest in copying anything, I just want to watch
a DVD once in a while.

Will a modulator help out here, or is there an easier (cheaper?) way to go?
Can I rig anything up?

It seems that back in the days of commonly using TV's as computer monitors,
there was an article in a popular electronics magazine (perhaps it was
indeed 'Popular Electronics') that described how to do so. I suppose that
would have been in the early to mid 80's. I remember there being a series
of caveats about how it wouldn't work with every TV, and that one absolutely
had to have the schematic for the set to make the modification. There was a
simple isolation/buffer circuit involved as well. Perhaps someone has the
issue....

(blink) So, my watching my satellite receiver (Line 1), my DVD
player (line 2), or the local antenna (channels 3,6,12,24,33,45) with the TV
tuned to Channel 4 with my VCR is just my imagination?

I've done it on my old colour TV. Just look for the tuner, and on the pins
at the bottom, i was lucky enough for it to be labeled, Video, Audio,
Frequency selection pins (uhf, vhf) etc.. i just cut the tracks, put a DPDT
switch in there, and it works fine (make sure u dont have a live earth)
