How to access AV Channel without Remote?

The remote for my 7.5 year old Akai TV stopped working. Today I purchased a
Universal Remote but that won't work either. I now think that the problem is
not with the remote but with the remote signal in the TV or whatever you
call it. Would this be expensive to fix? The main problem however is that
without the remote I can't access the AV function. Is there a way around
this? Thanks for any help.

Try the Ch up/dn button on the TV till u get to AV, else read the manual for
the TV if u still have it.

Also u might be able to buy a genuine remote from Speedy Spares in
Melbourne.

Also, it might be a good idea to post the model of the tv and the universal
remote.

It won't go to AV by moving through the channels - that's the problem. The
TV model is CT-2167AT S2 and the Universal Remote is Plustron URC11C-8A. My
guess is that the sensor on the TV is not working any more. Regards

I had a simialar problem with mine
I ordered the "right" remote from WES and it still didnt work, and
indeed there is no way to make it go to AV from the TV's controls. To
make matters worse it drops out of channel/AV and back to channel "1"
if you turn off the mains. Talk about a crap design !

You may be able to "force" AV mode by taking one of the pins of the
SCART connector on the back to either 8 or 12V. There are details in
the "data" section in the back of dick smith catalogs as i recall,

However I have found generally that TV's with SCART inputs are crap
and to be avoided as they frequently just wont work with standard AV
input signals for some unknown reason.

How about manually setup a AV channel?

ie, eg make channel 1 an AV chennel.

I had an akai hooked up to a PACE optical inspection station. The same
problem occoured and it wasn't the remote. I pulled the tv apart and
found a few spots on the switch pcb up the front where buttons had not
been fitted. I noticed that one of the spots read 'AV'. I soldered a
button in, cut out the little hole in the decal and voila, i had an AV
switch. I don't know if your model has that option available. I also
soldered in the other blank switches and they gave me full control
over colour/brigh etc.

Thanks to all for the advice. It is a bad design - I don't think I'll bother
with it any more.

Regards

The problem is Akai had several Chassis and everyone uses a different
Remote...
Its a royal pain,
I have tried several programmable ones, and none seem to work. Also you
cannot buy the original any more.
Time to buy a new TV..:<

Belatedly raising the subject of the "bleedin obvious" Many IR remote
receivers on TV, Video and Stereo are completely overwhelmed by switched IR
from low energy lamps. This has caught me more than once. Turn them off and
problem gone. Tell me "go blow" if you have covered this.
Luck,
Bill.

HI Bill,
What I was tiring to say was Akai are a bugger to get a new remotes for,
The pre-programmed units, which suit a heap of brands, just wont work with a
number of akai TV Sets, and even if you get one that says it is for model
XYZ, it wont work.. because you also have to quote the Serial number of the
Set when ordering it from the suplier....
