How much or how little

I guess it's not fair to hold Trump responsible for much of the results of the COVID-19 infection raging through the US. In the grand scheme of things he has only a small role to play in the outcome. He could have done some things he didn't, and the things he did, most of them he could have done much sooner. But how much would it have mattered?

The biggest problem in the US was in New York and even more specifically in and around New York city. I don't know why, but there was bickering between the mayor of the city and the governor. I had the impression the mayor said he was going to close the schools and the governor said he didn't have the authority, then a a few days later closed the schools. I think that repeated on some other issues. What can the President do about any of that? Not much!

Each state decided when and if to impose a stay at home order. A few never did, many did it far too late. What can the President do about that? Not much.

Even though this was a matter where the federal government only had a few ways to deal with the calamity, the one thing the President could have done was to be the rock of stability leading the way with a consistent message. The federal presence of support to the states and giving clear, unequivocal guidance could have and would have helped tremendously.

But instead, we all watched as Trump seized the daily opportunity to promote Trump with the intention of leading anyone shoved to the background. What was important to him was how many people watch Trump everyday. So instead of letting his experts speak, he did the talking, with his personal spin on everything he said.

So it really doesn't matter what someone else might have done in his place. Trump will be judged for his performance in this crisis. This will be not only the defining point of his presidency, but of his life.

"Grab them by the pussy!"

The difference of a single life matters. Much less the thousands his
ineptitude has caused.

Not the US, not that it 'matters', but was it not you whom just
posted a condolance?

No, it was not. You still refer to what befell us because TRUMP
DID NOTHING, not the city and state leaders.

Trump should have enabled the Army Corps of Engineers on day one,
way back in January, to roll out, NATIONWIDE outbreak mitigation
logistics.

He did NOTHING. The mayors and governors across 50 states ALL said
WHAT THE FUCK?

Just like the crew did when the SECNAV deliberately called a ship's
commander stupid in a publicly covered speech and the crew responded
WHAT THE FUCK?

Trump's lifelong incompetence is rearing it's ugly head and the
horseblindered idiots who put their honor and integrity on the line
to back the dangerous bastard cannot stand losing face by admitting
they were horribly wrong and that the idiot did not do the job and
cannot do the job. And Americans have died and are dying at his
hands. And all the stupid bastard could do is grab a microphone, and
made it worse, and grab a golf club, and made it worse.

We aren't so sure of that here. This tragedy seems to have heightened his popularity a little. On the web site fivethirtyeight.com his popularity has ranged between 40 and 43% for two years. Now it has ranged up to 45.8%!

It would be truly mind blowing if his poor performance was rewarded by putting him over the top and getting reelected.

I love it! This is one of the best posts Larkin has ever made, equating Henry Kissinger's "Power" quote to "Grab 'em by the pussy"!!!

It is mind boggling to see anyone even try to justify that as a worthy comment!!!

> Biden apparently didn't care about consent.

Interesting that you bring this up. Care to comment on the numerous reports of Trump's attacks on women? He is presently involved in litigation as a result of these claims. At least Trump is consistent repeating his offenses over the years.

Why bother. Even the US electorate has started to notice that he's an attention-seeking idiot.

The initial boost to his popularity generated by the extra exposure seems to have gone away. He's been exposing himself as a platform-hog with nothing to say worth listening to.
