History of HDL

Guest
Hi,

Where can I find some information on the history of hardware
description languages?
Where can I find a comparison of VHDL and Verilog?

Thanks,

Michael

There is one called language white paper comparing the constructs of
verilog and vhdl, I think its on model.com site in their tech pubs or
white paper section.

This book seems to cover it pretty well (I don't own it though):

Take a look at:

http://www.project-veripage.com/history.php

This will give you some idea about Verilog's history.

Since you said History of HDL.

As I recalled . It start in the early '80s. It called ABEL "
Advance Boolian Exepress Language " Xilinx still support in its CPLD.
If you do a Xilinx Web
search on ABEL you'll see 100's items come up.

Latiice got ABEL-HDL manual 8.0on its Web site in PDF file
format, you can down load. The ABEL 1.0 was gave free by Data I/O
in 1984.

How I got into this was by luck. I was force into by miliary
aircraft
government outfit. They don't like one page PAL-Aessebler Program.
Data-I/O gave a TOABEL automatic conversion software. Change one page
PAL ASM. to a 10 Pages ABEL. Goverment love paper work with tax's
payer money. After the
paper grander TOabel then I read through what it did see what it did
was change math formula to lots of word expressions. It also
generade same PAL's Jed file to burn PAL. That all I care. But it didn't
know was became some popular after quater century. (part-1)
