High power Zener diode ?

Looking for a Zener diode of 13W for replacement of a faulty component
in a legacy system. Could anyone points to me where I can get one ?

Alternatively, can I use some small power Zener diode, together with a
transistor, to functionally replace the high power Zener diode ? It
seems I saw such circuit before, but cannot recall exactly how to do it
and is it reliable!

I've been using a small diode with a big transistor as a shunt regulator
on a motorcycle. Can't get much more abusive environment than that.
Biggest problem with the technique is that it looks like a resistor
below the threshold due to the bias resistors.

The schematic below shows a very common high power zener replacement. (View
with fixed font). The zener voltage of the should be about 0.7V below the
required replacement. The transistor will need a heatsink otherwise required
by the power zener it replaces. The value of the resistor depends both on
the zener and the transistor you use and may need some
calculation/experimenting.
