Who\'d have thought productive, high-earning folks would leave high
tax/high crime states? No one could have predicted this! ;-)

Of course right-wing lunatics like ZeroHedge and Cursitor Doom would claim it and make \"selective\" use of statistics to \"prove\" that this was going on..

The rational majority note that good services cost money, which get paid for by taxes.

Well, that\'s just it. They don\'t think they\'re getting good services. What they are seeing is most of their tax dollars being wasted on giveaways, incompetence and corruption. Giveaways are just a form of taxpayer campaign finance.

Here\'s a quarter trillion giveaway they\'re seriously contemplating:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/reparations-could-cost-california-more-than-800-billion-economists-estimate

Generally people who have been wronged must make some form of documented showing of what exactly that wrong was, and that is subject to audit in the case of a monetary reparation. The California proposal is a blanket giveaway..

High earners don\'t need a lot of public services. They pay far more in
taxes than they get benefits from a state. If they have a business,
that differential is multiplied.

California has a 10% corporate income tax, an excellent job-exporting
program. And a capital gains tax, ditto. Now they want to tax
*unrealized* capital gains!

I have friends who moved just across the border into Incline Village
Nevada, also known as Income Village.

About the only thing high earners need from the state is law
enforcement and good roads. Ironically, both are better in Nevada.

All true, but some academic economist at Berkeley, published a report, generously financed by the state no doubt, that says it will all be okay.

The Murdoch media do publish a lot of those stories. They have to dig deep to find them (though right-wing politicians do mess with social programs to make them as incompetent as possible).

Australia has just exposed one of these schemes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robodebt_scheme

It was put together on the basis that welfare scroungers were ripping of the system and used a badly constructed computer-based scheme to find the cheats.
Most of the people penalised for cheating hadn\'t - in fact - cheated at all, and undoing the mess created cost a great deal more than was ever recovered. It also hounded a few non cheats to suicide.

Sewage Sweeper has found evidence that some people are as stupid as he is, and move to areas where taxes are lower.

Since California and New York State still seem to have a lot of residents, most people seem to have more sense.

Sewage Sweeper expects everybody else to be just as gullible as he is. He\'s certainly a sucker for right-wing lunatic propaganda.
Cursitor Doom seems to need utterly fatuous propaganda to whet his interest, while Sewage Sweeper just seems latches onto the Fox News/Zero Hedge nonsense as making the least demand on any intellectual capacity he may have left.

Sewage Sweeper has funny ideas about what constitute \"nuking\" and \"fire-bombing\". If he could understand what I\'d written (which he clearly didn\'t want to) he wouldn\'t be making these claims.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Plowshare

detonated 35 nuclear devices in 27 tests in the United States, so the proposed \"nuking\" is rather less (and rather better motivated) than the US went in for.
