Greetings,

I'm not sure if this is the right group to post to but I'm gonna to start
here anyway.

I want output from my dvd player and vcr to go through my stereo for the
"poor man's solution to home theater" effect However, the stereo doesn't
have a video port so I have connected audio only RCA cables from the input
from the stereo to the output on the TV. TV sounds great through the
stereo. I have the VCR connected to my cable box and the cable box is
obviously connected to the tv, and when a tape is playing it sounds great
through the stereo as well.

Now, the DVD player is connected to an audio/video switch and the tv is also
connected to the switch. I get video to the TV but no sound through the
stereo. What am I doing wrong?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

Off by a long shot. Something like alt.home-theater.misc would be better,
but there are likely even better choices...

The signal from the DVD player should go to one of the inputs of the A/B
switch.

The signal from the wall (your cable jack) should go into the cable box.
From the cable box, to the VCR. From the VCR to the other input on the A/B
switch. (Nothing should go from the cable box to the TV directly)

Take the one output from the switch, use a 3-in-1 composite ("RCA"... Red,
White, Yellow) cable. Take the Yellow (video) cable, and plug it into the
TV. Take the Red & White cables and plug them into the Input on the stereo.
