Help with Sony CD changer

I've just bought a used car complete with Sony CD changer (CDX-T69). I'm not
sure if the CD changer was working when I bought the car, but since changing
the battery the radio (VW Gamma radio) reports "No CD changer". The CD
changer has power (the CD magazine loads and ejects fine). Cabling at the
changer end looks OK, but I can't easily remove the radio to check that end.
Is there anything simple that might cause this problem?

could be the connector at the back of the radio dropped of or bad contacts
