Help with an AXIS NPS 530 Paralell to Network printer adapto

I have been given a few Axis NPS-530 printer to network adaptors. They run
on 12vdc, one end plugs directly into a printer via the normal old paralell
printer connector, the other end has a socket for a network cable. These
units can be programmed for Static or Dynamic IP addressing via special
software.

I have been to the www.axis.com website and downloaded some software and
some pdf manuals but after reading them all and trying the software they are
still not working.

Is there anyone here that used one before and knows how to set it up and is
there anyone that has the original software package for it ?

This is the single cigarette packet size?

I think if you power them on with the reset button depressed they
default.
Then you can telnet to them, download (ftP) the config file, change it
and ftp it back.

Do you know the IP address?
Did the manual tell you the default IP address?

There was an ip address stuck to it with hand writting, but I couldn't ping
it or telnet to it, so I assume it was reset before I got it. I did try the
reset method and still can't tell if it done much, the led did respond as
the manual said. Also the manual doesn't say any IP except for an example,
and that IP don't work either. After the reset it seems to pick up an ip
address from my dsl modems NAT in the 10.1.1.X range, so I assume it has the
ability for static and dynamic IP addressing, but even if it does get given
an IP adress I still can't ping it or telnet to it.

This is the unit I have.
http://www.axis.com/techsup/prtsrv/nps_530/index.htm

Even tho this unit is old and in most cases not needed anymore, I have a use
for it on my faters $2000 copy/printer/scanner/fax at his office, currently
it only works via a paralell port, and to get the network card for it will
cost $900, these Axis print servers I have here I got at an auction with
some lazer printers for $20, thats the main reason why I want to get it
working. $$$$$$'s

For memory, it'll do a test page to LPT1:, when holding the test button
for 5 or 6 secs...

I got the test page to print ok, but it did manage to pump out several pages
which were just completely black then it printed the stats.

It has an IP of 160.7.195.210, I tried to Ping it, Telnet it and then ftp
it. Nothing returns from either atempt.

check your routing. I usually find that I have to set routing up for
160.7.195.0 on my NIC.

Can you have a go at explaining that for me, I do know a little about
network stuff but not everything.

Okay, the next thing to have a look at will be the Printed SubNet mask -
usually 255.255.255.0 - assuming it is this value, change your PC's IP
address to something like: 160.7.195.212. Do the PC re-boot thingy and
you should now be able to PING it from a command prompt.

p.s. IF memory serves, the default login and password for these things
is "root" & "admin"...
