I have a TV that has a NPN Horiz. Output transister with the number 1881 on
it. Since it is Japanese and and AF application NPN xsistr, I suspect it is
a 2SD1881.

I cross that to an NTE2353. That is a Horiz. Output transister, but it is a
TO-220 and mine is a TO-3 package. Also, the NTE device has an internal
damping diode and I am not sure my OEM device has one. This is from a GE
projection TV. The GE number is EP15X127, but it does not cross and
GE/Thompson does not list that part number any longer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

There are lots of transistors that would likely work, but the 1881 is one of
the better ones. Many of the subs that would function in its place may be
less durable. Why not just replace it with the same? You can buy them for
under $2 from many suppliers.
