Hello folks,

I have an IBM 21" monitor with Sony WEGA tube (model P260).
The image is too bright, and on-screen menu brightness control
range is insufficient to achieve comfortable brightness. Even when
set to 0, the image is way too bright to use the monitor. I don't
see any other problems with the monitor.

Is there any way to lower the brightness? I've often been able to
use internal controls in such cases. Many monitors have
focus / brightness adjustment knobs on flyback transformer
(if that's the right term). This one has two focus controls
instead (they do work).

Anybody knows where global brightness regulator is inside,
for IBM monitors with Sony tubes?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

If the monitor is under warranty take it back for service. If the monitor
was good before, and the problem has come by itself, this is not an
adjustment, but is a defect due to some parts that are failing. The fault is
most likely in the bias circuits for the CRT drives, or the G2 supply, or
maybe even in the power supply.

In the case for necessary adjustment:
Many of these models do not have any pots for this type of set-up on the
main board. This is all done by software only. The proper hardware jig, and
software are used to set up many of these models. Only the authorized
service rep for your monitor can do this type of set-up. The non authorized
service shops that get these types of monitors for service, will job them
out when required.

Hi,

I've got a P260 and it did the same thing.
Over many weeks it slowly got brighter.
Fortunately it was under warranty so it went back.
