It's mostly about expressiveness, and Jerry was in a class by himself
in that category.

Wow, I hardly ever cross-post.... and something as retarded as this
has to be addressed.

Jerry Garcia the best guitarist since Richie Sambora ?? are you
fucking high ??

Sam Hagar, Mark Knopfler, Joe Satriani, Stanley Jordan, Steve Vai,
Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, David Gilmore..... these guitarist
are far superior to Garcia, and most definitely Sambora.
Hagar???? WTF???? Although Sammy was actually a fan of Garcia's. He
even played with him on a couple of occasions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY6-kJlxwZc

He's sat in with various post Garcia incarnations of the band too

Ygnwie is one of the least interesting guitarists I've EVER heard.
Busy doesn't equal good, it just equals busy. Gilmore, Knopfler, EVH,

Just ask players like Bruce Hornsby, Brandford Marsalis and Ornette
Coleman

Two sides of the same coin. You can't express shit if you aren't
listening to what the other players are saying

I suppose, but Jerry's expressiveness wasn't limited to his ensemble
playing. His acoustic performances, accompanied by only John Kahn,
were masterful.

I agree completely, however you still have to be listening to what
you're playing too. For me it all comes down to the ability to listen-
to other players and yourself

YMMV

Yes it was. I think the best work Jerry did was with Grisman. That
some awesome stuff IMO

Heroin does a lot less damage to the human body than some might think.
True. Garcia died because he lived on Hostess Twinkies.

Garcia's playing sounded like shit when he was smacked up.
Well, now there you're wrong. Seriously. One of the shows
during the last year of his life was a JGB gig in Phoenix. They
played five songs, hauntingly beautiful, when suddenly they left the
stage and finally after about 15 minutes, someone came back to
announce that Jerry was unable to continue (read, too smacked up).

Everybody got a refund, we were all bummed, but I'll never forget
how great Jerry sounded that night.

I learned recently that there are classical deadheads -- people who love
Rachmaniov's "Isle of the Dead".

it's all because of the moonwalk. People overlooked all of his
foibles once he did that wild dance. Maybe if Jerrry Garcia
moonwalked people could have overlooked his substance abuse problems
too.

Fun Fact: Rachmaniov invented the moon walk.
Bill Bailey actually, unless someone comes up with an earlier occurance

From Area 57? Last time I checked we didn't get to the moon
until 1969 (same year as Woodstock, BTW).
