I don't remember my blasted password, Duh. Which is mainly the reason I
don't use 'em much. Can anyone help me overcome this problem. BTW, I've
posted a similar request to alt.pc-clone.acer.

Thanks

Might want to have a look here: http://www.pwcrack.com/bios.shtml

As I understand, harddrive passwords are pretty hard to defeat. I've also read
that removing the harddrive and installing another drive may in fact, lock up
the new drive.

There was a thread about this on alt.windows98 but about IBM hard drives. Search
for "IBM HDD password" (without quotes). If it's a BIOS password, there's often
a jumper in the motherboard to reset the CMOS settings. Or just remove the
battery and leave the PC off for some hours.

If it's a password function in the hard drive itself, you are pretty
much screwed. Your only hope would be a data recovery service. The drive
requires a command with the correct password to unlock itself.

If it's the computer's BIOS password, that can often be overriden by a
jumper on the motherboard.

In 99.999% of my replies to people over the past 15+ YEARS of reading
Usenet, I've NEVER had somebody complain about getting an e-mail reply. In
fact, many have been grateful.

Basically, if somebody does not want an e-mail reply, DO NOT USE A REAL
E-MAIL ADDRESS!! If you are so worried about spam, NEVER make ANY form of
public post!!

Also, just how is an e-mail reply 'off topic'???

Thank you, Andrew

Comments noted. I apologise if I appeared rude or bad mannered.

My email filters work very well as it captures about 95% of spam. I get
about 100 spams a day, until last week. There has been a considerable drop
in the number of spams received...Something is working.

I don't care for duplicate email newsgroup replies, either. They tend
to divert the conversation from the newsgroup, where they belong, and
they assume that I will get a greater benefit from reading the same
message twice.

The email message usually leaves me wondering whether this is a direct
response to me that I need to answer, or was it an email from someone
who thought they were responding to the newsgroup but didn't know how
to use their software. Any possibility that exists, I've gotten them.

In general, I just think they confuse things. I suspect that people do
this because their software offers this as a "feature" so they assume
that it must be a good thing to do.
