HD problem after usin Norton Ghost-DOS compat mode

Hi all;

My old 10GB seemed not to like to work when it got hot, slick drive light, no
action. Had this dandy 40GB Diamondmax8 that was destined for my new system in
the near future so I ghosted it and I'm running the 40GB now. I let it cool
down, put it in a stream of cool air and the transplant went fine.

The problem is that now device mgr shows a /!\ by the pimary IDE
controller. Performance reports the drive to be running in dos compatability
mode. I didn't want to use the Maxtor utiliy because it would install an
overlay, which I don't want. I also want full blown virtual drivers due to
performance. Now the PC does work quite well, but if it can do better I want to
make it so.

I have already tried removing the primary controller in device mgr, but it came
back the same.

I seriously don't think it has a boot sector virus, last time that happened I
don't think it flagged the controller, but forced dos compat mode. With a drive
change, I think it is related to that. The system was scanned by NAV with a
fresh update right before the cloning process, and the only floppy that got put
in it was the bootdisk w/norton ghost.

Machine is: Iwill P55TV, 128MB, 2 SCSI 4.5GB, 3C905B netcard, Hercules (Tseng)
video, AMD K6-2 400 on a plate from Evergreen, hardware MODEM, SB sound (2ch),
Phillips 4x4x32, a true 56X CD (CLV) and two 230 watt PSes, running 98SE. It is
actually fast enough for now but ignoring problems is almost always bad
business.

When I get my new one together this one will be a nice backup, so I do want to
keep it running. Laugh if you want, but it really does run quite well.

Any ideas ?

Try searching for "NOIDE" in the registry, and deleting that key.
