Hello,
St. Patrick isn't a saint at all. He was removed from the official list and
unless he comes up with a few miracles he will never be canonised. For those
of you interested in miracles and so on see what you can find about a real
miracle worker called Padre Pio.
I found this list of St. Patrick's Day parades:
http://www.saintpatricksdayparade.com/parade_dates.htm
We will see clips from the main one down 5th Avenue in Manhattan on our
national TV news bulletins. I have a woolly recollection that gays and
lesbians were banned from taking part a few years ago in that parade but
that is Irish Catholicism at work in it's more sinister form although
homophobia is not exclusive to conservative Irish Catholics by any means.
I see there is a parade in Dallas, Texas.
There's also one in Phoenix, Arizona and I wonder if Jim Thompson, the ol'
goat, will turn out to watch. I doubt it
Peter Nolan.
Dublin.
