A capacitor on my old wood boiler circulator is cracked and the thing
don't run. I went to Standard Electric and Bell pumps. Both said they
don't carry capacitors. It that a polite way to tell me to get fucked,
I'm not a contractor? I can't believe they don't carry capacitors. Or
maybe contractors can't fix anything anymore and just replace everything.

They may just find it uneconomical to stock a wide range of
infrequently-required parts... and, yeah, I suspect that they'd prefer
to sell you a new pump for $$$ rather than a capacitor for $.

http://www.surplussales.com/capacitors/motorstart.html may have
something along the lines of what you need.
'tis one of the reasons why we have places such as Digikey:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Cat=131090;keywords=motor;stock=1

I find that driving into town costs more time and gas money than a few
mouse clicks and keystrokes plus shipping. I let them ship non-urgent
stuff USPS but if the OP is out of hot water and also married his matter
might require something like Fedex overnight.

You are right. I ended up ordering a capacitor on line for $7.95. A
local store wanted $35.00.

Good. Meantime I buy nearly all this stuff online. Plus it avoid all
this "if you don't have a contractors license we won't sell to you"
nonsense.

Sometimes you can get lucky and find a working capacitor of about the
right capacitance in an old washer or something. That's how I once fixed
my parent's dishwasher and it never quit again thereafter.
