If you're rich enough to afford to go to Corfu, why are you so stupid?

Malta has some fantastic diving. Shallow waters with loits of caves and
reefs. Plus there's plenty of dive shops that hire equipment if you can't
take your own.

I'll be there myself in a few weeks.

Please don't enter caves unless certified for that.

The National Speleological Society publishes a compilation
of caving accidents every year or two. By far the most
common cause of fatalities is open-water divers who
venture into caves. One problem is that everything looks
fine on the way in, but when you turn around to go out
there is no longer an "out" because you've been stirring
up silt on your way in, and now you're blind.

Check out the NSS if you want to get cave-certified.

Enjoy your trip!

Dom, can you point to more info on this; I'm moving to Tunisia for a
couple of years, close to Malta.

If you're in Tunisia, you're only a short hop from the Red Sea which offers
some of the best diving in the world. (possibly too good judging by the vast
numbers of people underwater at the popular dive sites)
There's loads of dive centres in and around Eilat.

Malta has many diving sites around itself and Gozo. The Marfa Reef is
stunning.

Try www.lunadiving.com or just do a Google search for Dive Malta.

Malta does have some rules for visiting divers though.

All divers must be accompanied by a Malta Government registered
instructor/dive leader. You can dive with your own party if you have a Malta
Sports Diving Card.

You caqn get this if you are qualified to PADI Open Water with 10 logged
dives, a BSAC Sports Diver, a CMAS 2 star diver or equivalent.
(Make sure you take two passport photgraphs, together with a copy of a
medical certificate and your log book / qualifications card).

This isn't too much hassle, and it's their way of keeping diving Safe in
Malta, and reducing accident statistics.

My previous posting about caves... I must stress that IMO the mouth of a
cave is better seen from the outside, than the inside.

To reiterate Bob's comments.. if you want to go in.. get qualified. (And
anyway.. who'd want to go in when there's so much to see outside!?)

Thanks Dom! We'll probably do mostly snorkling, as my wife isn't
interested in SCUBA. I'll make sure I have all my PADI Docs in case...
