Four caps in power board, one cap on mainboard (filter cap for B+
driver transformer.), 9 in convergence board, one of that had rubber
bung blown out and shorted out the power supply rail. In that
convergence board all 8 of them was sandwiched between two convergence
ICs and rows of power resistors.
Fixed all the bad sold joints.
Oh, well! the set works great now, heatsinks running lukewarm not
frying hot. But green CRT is weak. Focus on red & blue is decent,
green slightly fuzzy and weak.
Did not have to replace anything major, thanks goodness.
I wish there is a compatiable green CRT dirt cheap or have small stash
of RCA projector tubes.
Cheers,
Wizard
PS:
One of Sony model used same STR 6301A IC for SMPS. What I wondered
why is SMPS heatsink ran RED HOT even with new set of caps. Why?
